On August 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, alongside key European leaders. The talks come at a pivotal moment in the war, with Zelensky receiving backing from the leaders of Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Finland, and NATO.
Trump’s remarks follow his recent summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. He suggested that as part of any peace settlement, Ukraine would need to forgo its ambitions of joining NATO and abandon efforts to reclaim Crimea. Building on his discussions with Putin, Trump is now
focusing on brokering a comprehensive peace agreement rather than pursuing only a short-term ceasefire.
Trump will first hold a one-on-one meeting with Zelensky in the Oval Office, followed by a joint session with the European leaders in the White House East Room.
