Fauja Singh, recognized as the world's oldest marathon runner, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident on July 14, according to Indian authorities. He was 114 years old.
Born in Punjab, Singh took up running at the age of 89 and completed nine full marathons between 2000 and 2013. Remarkably, he continued to participate in races well into his 100s. Singh earned the nickname "Turbaned Tornado" as he began his marathon journey in his late 80s. Notably, he became the oldest person to finish a full marathon at the Toronto Marathon in 2011, achieving this milestone at the age of 100.
According to police reports, Singh was struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing a road in his village. Locals rushed him to the hospital, where he sadly passed away.
