The 2025 Wimbledon Championships mark a historic turning point for the tournament, as organizers break with two long-standing traditions that have been in place since 1877: easing the iconic all-white dress code and fully embracing electronic line-calling, thereby ending the use of human line judges.

For the first time ever, players were allowed to wear black armbands on their traditional white attire to mourn the tragic deaths of Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota and his brother, who were killed in a car crash on the night of July 3. This rare exception reflects Wimbledon’s compassion and deep respect for human loss.

Additionally, Wimbledon introduced the Hawk-Eye electronic line-calling system on all courts, becoming the third Grand Slam—after the Australian Open and US Open—to replace human line judges with cutting-edge technology.
