The Pickett Fire in northern California has burned approximately 26 square kilometers (10 square miles) in Napa County, an area renowned for its hundreds of wineries. As of August 19, the fire was reportedly 15% contained.
Meanwhile, firefighters are battling the Oregon Flat Fire, where only 5% of the blaze has been controlled. This intense fire has destroyed homes and consumed nearly 22,000 acres, forcing over 4,000 families to evacuate.
On August 22, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek activated the Emergency Conflagration Act to allocate additional state resources. Meanwhile, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) has deployed firefighting resources to safeguard the wineries.
