On August 13, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced a $5.5 billion relief package to support exporters affected by U.S. tariffs of up to 50 percent.
Unveiled at a signing ceremony at the Planalto Presidential Palace in Brasília, the initiative—dubbed Sovereign Brazil—includes a 30 billion reais ($5.5 billion) credit lifeline.
Despite the trade tensions, President Lula struck a combative tone, accusing the United States of habitually “picking fights” and portraying its rivals as “the devil.”
