Thousands of US Federal Workers Face Resignation as Government Shutdown Hits Key Services

There was a formal resignation of almost 100,000 federal employees. In American history, this is the biggest mass resignation of government employees. President Donald Trump laid out a plan for the resignations at the start of his second administration. The erosion of institutional competency is probably harmful.

 

The way that different government agency’s function will be significantly impacted by the departure of federal personnel. It may also result in service disruptions at the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Social Security Administration. Meanwhile, the United States Congress has until September 30 to approve more funding or risk a government shutdown.

 

On September 30, more than 100,000 government employees legally resigned under Trump's deferred resignation policy. The initiative impacts 275,000 workers in multiple agencies and costs US$14.8 billion. According to government officials, it will therefore ultimately save US$28 billion yearly.
