On October 11, 2026, a flash flood in Nepal's central Gorkha district swept away houses and bridges, leaving five people missing. Authorities have not yet reported any injuries or fatalities. The flood occurred in the Budhi Gandaki River, a tributary of the Trishuli River.
Residents and tourists fled for safety as the river surged. Officials issued evacuation warnings along the banks of the Budhi Gandaki River and downstream stretches of the Trishuli River. Authorities in Nepal urged people to stay away from riverbanks in the mountainous north.
The flooding struck the Budhi Gandaki River in the Gorkha district, about 100 km west of the capital, Kathmandu. According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the disaster destroyed 45 houses and damaged two suspension footbridges, two motorable bridges, and three hydropower projects.
According to Nepal's Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, large landslide blocked a tributary of the Budhi Gandaki, then suddenly released water downstream. However, the cause of the sudden surge of water and debris is still under investigation.
