Japan is introducing the death sentence for the first time since 2022. Takahiro Shiraishi, a man who killed nine people in 2017, was executed in Japan.

To investigate the disappearance of a 23-year-old lady, police raided Shiraishi's home in Zama, Kanagawa prefecture, about an hour outside Tokyo. Five containers and three cooler boxes were found in Shiraishi's room. The boxes included human heads and bones with their flesh scraped off.

Shiraishi was hauled into custody in October 2017. Twitter, also known as X, was one of the social media channels where the woman expressed suicidal thoughts.

The Japanese were astounded by Takahiro Shiraishi's "Twitter killer" murders. In 2020, he pleaded guilty to the murders of nine people, eight women and one man, and was sentenced to death. Takahiro Shiraishi, 34, was hanged on June 27 in the Tokyo Detention House.
