On October 13, the final 20 surviving hostages in Gaza were freed for the first time in almost two years. On October 13, 1,718 Palestinian detainees who had been detained in Israel without being charged were freed and sent back to Gaza. Additionally, Israel freed 250 Palestinians who were serving lengthy sentences.
On October 13, US President Donald Trump spoke at a world leaders' summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to discuss ending the Gaza War. Political leaders from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey have gathered in Egypt for a ceremony to sign a cease-fire agreement in Gaza.
President Trump praised regional leaders for negotiating a settlement between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas. "A new and beautiful day is rising, and now the rebuilding begins," declared President Trump.
