On July 6, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, will celebrate his 90th birthday. The spiritual leader of millions of Tibetan Buddhists around the world, the Dalai Lama, is preparing for a confrontation with Beijing over his reincarnation.

On July 2, the Dalai Lama presented the much-anticipated succession plan. Reaffirming the Dalai Lama's previous statements. The next Dalai Lama will be chosen after his death. In a memoir, the Dalai Lama claimed that his successor will be born in the free world outside China.

Beijing views Tibet as an integral part of China. Beijing has made it plain that the Dalai Lama's next reincarnation will be in China and approved by the Chinese Communist Party.
