Wall Street Journal writers Liza Lin and Stu Woo co-write an article of Western Brand in China on Jan. 2, 2002. It indicated that China recently was accused of genocide against Xinjiang ethnic minorities by the U.S. and other countries. They continuingly criticise China’s human rights abuses. It leads to severe resistance from China against Western companies seeking to explore business opportunities in China.
As a result, some companies have chosen to withdraw from regions of the Chinese market where human rights are at issue. It is to protect their business reputation, such as Walmart, Intel, and more.
However, China, with the world's largest population, has a strong consumer power that is not to be underestimated by Western companies. Therefore, companies such as Apple, Tesla have chosen to take the same side as China.
