According to an investigation, social media influencers in the United Kingdom have been promoting illegal and dangerous tanning products to millions of people online. Dermatologists advise that the drug, which is unlicensed and unregulated, is dangerous and that users should stop using it immediately.

Unlicensed melanotan, an artificial hormone that stimulates the pigment cells in your skin to generate melanin, is now prohibited in the UK (the substance that makes skin look darker). Untested products have been related to skin cancer in the past. It's available in a variety of forms, including a nasal spray for tanning, although it's most usually used as an injection.

It follows a previous investigation by WIRED, a monthly American magazine published in print and online, which found more than 200 supplements on Depop with questionable health claims. Depop is a peer-to-peer social e-commerce platform headquartered in London that is gaining in popularity in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy.

According to an inquiry, illegal narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and dodgy secondhand supplements are all being sold on Depop. It discovered that harmful tanning injections, needles, used fertility pills, bongs, and coke spoons were openly advertised on the market, and that youngsters as young as 13 were using them. Patients with unusual orange tans and disordered moles, according to the British Association of Dermatologists, should be on the lookout.
